OHSAS 18001 and health and safety training 'paramount', Mar 29, 2010 00:00:00
OHSAS 18001 training may be one of the health and safety measures companies in Slough may wish to consider as part of a new initiative to improve health and safety in the workplace.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has teamed up with a number of local organisations - including the Federation of Small Businesses, the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Slough Borough Council - to create the Estates Excellence support project, which is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses.

Under the scheme, managers and workers can get free advice, workshops, guidance and training, as well as occupational health testing for dermatitis, lung function, vibration and noise.

"Health and safety at work is paramount and I would urge anyone with a business in the town to get involved in the project," commented councillor Shafiq Chaudhry, commissioner for community and leisure.

The HSE recently reported that one in four firms in Cumbria had failed a health and safety inspection during visits to construction sites.

A number of the warnings were related to working at height.
